Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) is the Pacific Northwest's biggest pop-culture convention and one of the most beloved comic-focused shows in the United States. The 2027 edition runs March 4–7 at the Seattle Convention Center in downtown Seattle. Unlike the studio-blockbuster spectacle of some larger cons, ECCC has kept a reputation as a comics-first, creator-friendly show — the kind of place where you can actually meet the artists and writers behind your favorite books.
The heart of the show is its guest list and artists' alley. ECCC draws a deep roster of comic creators for signings, sketches and panels, alongside celebrity guests from film, TV and animation for photo ops and Q&As. The exhibitor floor is a treasure hunt of comics, original art, indie publishers, collectibles and merch, and the four-day format spreads out the programming — panels, workshops, screenings and a famously strong cosplay community — so it never feels as compressed as a two- or three-day con. Gaming, anime and genre fiction all have a real presence too, making it a broad geek-culture weekend rather than comics alone.
The venue and city are a big plus. The Seattle Convention Center sits in the middle of downtown, walkable to hundreds of hotels and restaurants and a short monorail ride from the Space Needle and Seattle Center. Seattle–Tacoma International Airport connects to downtown by the Link light rail in about 40 minutes, so you can arrive without renting a car. Badges — available as single-day or four-day passes — go on sale months ahead on the official ECCC site, and the most in-demand celebrity photo ops and autographs are sold separately and can sell out, so plan those early.
ECCC has deep roots: it started in 2003 and is now run by ReedPop, the team behind New York Comic Con, which helps it attract a strong national guest list while keeping its friendly, comics-first character. Seattle sweetens the trip for geeks specifically — the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), with its science-fiction, fantasy and video-game exhibits, is right by the Space Needle; the Seattle Pinball Museum and a thriving board-game-café scene are close by; and the city's independent comic shops are excellent. It's an easy con to build a themed weekend around.
Early March in Seattle is cool and often rainy, so pack layers and a waterproof jacket — but that also makes the con a cozy indoor escape, and downtown's coffee culture is right at your door. Between panels it's easy to explore Pike Place Market, the waterfront and the museums around Seattle Center. Check the official Emerald City Comic Con site closer to the date for the finalized guest list, schedule and badge availability.
