Japan Expo Thailand is the largest festival of Japanese culture in Southeast Asia, and 2026 marked its 11th edition — held February 6–8 at CentralWorld in the heart of Bangkok under the theme "Japan Thai United as One." Entry is completely free, and the halls run from 10am to 9pm across all three days, drawing enormous crowds of families, fans and tourists.
What sets Japan Expo Thailand apart from a typical anime convention is its breadth. More than 20 zones span the full spectrum of Japanese culture: anime, manga and pop culture; Japanese food and drink; fashion, beauty and lifestyle; travel and tourism promotion; education and study-in-Japan programs; and business and investment. Wrapped around all of it is a packed stage schedule of free live concerts featuring Japanese, Thai and international performers, from idol groups to anime-song artists. It's part trade show, part fan festival and part food fair — there's genuinely something for every kind of Japan enthusiast, whether you're there to cosplay, to shop, or just to eat.
The venue is a big part of the appeal. CentralWorld is one of the largest shopping complexes in Southeast Asia, in the Ratchaprasong district at the very center of Bangkok. It sits directly on the BTS Skytrain (Chit Lom and Siam stations are a short walk) and is surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and more shopping than you could cover in a weekend — so the expo folds naturally into a wider Bangkok trip.
A few practical notes: because entry is free, weekends and evenings get extremely busy, so arrive early or go on the Friday if you want a calmer experience. February is one of the best months to visit Bangkok — dry and relatively cool — which makes it easy to combine the expo with sightseeing. Bring cash for food stalls and smaller vendors, though the malls take cards everywhere. Japan Expo Thailand is held every February; check the official site for the next edition's exact dates, headline concerts and zone line-up.
