MagicCon: Las Vegas kicks off the 2026 Magic: The Gathering festival season in the most fitting city imaginable — a place built on high stakes and spectacle. Held over the first weekend of May at the Las Vegas Convention Center, it draws tens of thousands of players, collectors and fans to one enormous hall where a live Pro Tour plays out on a theater-style main stage. Watching the world's best compete for five-figure prizes, cards in hand and expert commentary overhead, is as close as the trading-card world gets to a televised sport.
Even if you never sit down for a sanctioned match, there is a full weekend of things to do. The Command Zone — a dedicated area for casual and Commander play — routinely has thousands of people casting spells at once, and it's the easiest place to find a pickup game with strangers who become friends by turn three. Artists' Alley brings the illustrators behind Magic's most iconic cards out to sign, sell prints and take commissions. Around them you'll find cosplay contests, panels and set reveals, a sprawling vendor floor of singles dealers and collectibles, and immersive photo ops built around fan-favorite cards and the game's Universes Beyond crossovers.
Practically, Las Vegas is one of the easiest MagicCons to attend: flights are cheap from almost anywhere in North America, hotel rooms are plentiful and often inexpensive midweek, and the convention center sits minutes from the Strip. Tickets go on sale months ahead on the official Magic.gg site, and the premium "Legendary" badge packages — which bundle exclusive playmats and promo cards — sell out fastest, so buy early if you want the extras.
A few tips make the weekend smoother. Bring a sturdy deck box or binder for anything you want signed or traded, and a portable charger — the halls are huge and you'll be on your feet for hours. Pace your spending on the singles floor, where prices spike with event demand. And build in time to enjoy Vegas itself: the convention is close to the resort corridor, so it's easy to pair tournament days with shows, restaurants and everything else the city does at scale. Check Magic.gg nearer the date for the exact schedule, guest artists and side-event line-up.
