MEGACON Orlando

MEGACON Orlando is the largest comic and pop-culture convention in the Southeastern United States, filling the enormous Orange County Convention Center for four days each spring. The 2027 edition runs May 20–23. Part of the FAN EXPO HQ family of shows, it spans comics, sci-fi and fantasy, film and TV, anime, gaming and collectibles under one roof, and its sheer scale — a headline celebrity roster, a vast exhibitor floor and a packed programming grid — makes it a genuine destination event rather than a regional stop.

Celebrity guests are a defining draw. MEGACON routinely books A-list film and television names for panels, autographs and photo ops, alongside legendary comic-book creators, anime voice actors and popular internet personalities. Around them the show floor stretches across the convention center's West Concourse: major publishers and retailers, a deep Artist Alley of independent creators, and dedicated zones for gaming, anime and tabletop. The cosplay community turns out in force, with masquerade contests, craftsmanship showcases and gatherings running all weekend — Orlando's fan scene is large and enthusiastic, and it shows.

What sets MEGACON apart from almost any other convention is where it sits. The Orange County Convention Center is on International Drive, in the heart of one of the world's great theme-park capitals. Universal Orlando — home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and, with the resort's new Epic Universe, Super Nintendo World — is minutes away. Walt Disney World is a short drive, and the Kennedy Space Center is an easy day trip out to the coast. No other comic con lets a fan combine celebrity panels, a rocket-launch viewing and a day at Hogwarts in a single vacation.

Practical notes. International Drive is lined with hotels at every price point, with easy access from Orlando International Airport (MCO); many attendees stay within walking or short-shuttle distance of the venue. Tickets are sold by day and as multi-day passes through the official FAN EXPO site, with premium and photo-op packages that sell out first — book early, especially for headline guests whose sessions and photo slots are capped. May in Central Florida is warm and humid with afternoon showers, so plan for the heat, keep water handy, and wear comfortable shoes for the very large halls.

For a geek traveler, MEGACON is best treated as the centrepiece of a longer Orlando trip rather than a standalone weekend. Build a week around it: two or three days in the convention, a couple at Universal and Disney, and a coastal run to see the Space Coast. Few destinations pack this much fandom — screen, page, game and real-world spaceflight — into such a small radius.
