PAX West returns to the Seattle Convention Center over Labor Day weekend, running September 3–6, 2027. Since its start in 2004 as a 4,500-person gathering in Bellevue, PAX has grown into one of the largest and most influential gaming festivals on Earth — and unlike industry-only trade shows, it was built from day one as a celebration of gaming culture open to the public, not the press and platform holders alone.
The show floor spans the entire Convention Center complex, including the original Arch building and the larger Summit building, and it's a genuinely vast sensory overload: major publishers showcase upcoming blockbusters alongside the Indie Megabooth, a dedicated space where independent developers show off some of the most creative games in development anywhere. Beyond the demo queues, PAX runs panels with developers, voice actors and industry personalities, freeplay areas stacked with hundreds of PCs, classic consoles and handhelds, and — PAX's signature feature — an entire floor devoted to board games, card games and TTRPGs, complete with a free lending library so you can try something new without buying it first.
For fans, the appeal is the sheer range packed into one badge: you can queue for a hands-on look at next year's biggest release, sit in on a panel with a favorite voice actor, or spend hours borrowing tabletop games with strangers who become friends by the end of a match. Esports tournaments, indie showcases and specialized play zones round out a schedule that runs from morning well into the evening.
Navigating it takes some planning. Badges go on sale in the spring and sell out quickly, especially for Saturday and the four-day pass, so buying early matters. The convention spans multiple buildings and nearby hotels, so comfortable shoes, a portable charger and the official PAX App — for tracking panels and navigating the floor plan — are close to essential. If a specific unreleased game is your priority, plan to line up early, or lean into the indie sections, where queues are shorter and the developers themselves are often standing right there.
Seattle over Labor Day weekend turns thoroughly geek-friendly, with hotels near the Convention Center booking up months ahead — staying slightly outside downtown near the Link Light Rail is a solid fallback. After the show floor closes each evening, the convention continues with concerts, late panels, and countless unofficial after-parties and developer mixers at bars across the city, so the day rarely really ends at 6pm.
