The Pokémon World Championships are the crown jewel of competitive Pokémon, and in 2026 they come to the Moscone Center in the heart of San Francisco's SoMa district from August 28–30. The best players from every region — earned through a full season of Regional and International Championships — converge on a single venue to battle for the World Champion title across four formats at once: the Trading Card Game, the video-game doubles format (VGC), Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE.
Even if you're not competing, Worlds is an incredible spectator experience. The main stage runs professional-grade production with casters, analysts and cinematic camera work, and the energy in the room during a Top 8 is unlike anything else in gaming. Beyond the main tournament there are side events open to attendees, panels, exclusive event-only merchandise that regularly sells out, artist signings, and meet-and-greets with top players and content creators. 2026 is an especially historic edition, arriving alongside the launch of Pokémon Champions, the franchise's first purpose-built competitive platform — expect it to be front and center.
A key practical note: attendance at Worlds is largely limited to players who earn an invitation through Championship Points, plus a pool of spectator passes released in advance that go quickly. If you want to attend as a fan, watch the official Play! Pokémon channels for when spectator passes drop, and sort that before booking travel. The Moscone Center is easy to reach — San Francisco International Airport is a straight BART ride away, and the venue sits on the city's transit spine.
San Francisco is one of the best host cities imaginable for pairing a tournament with a vacation. The Moscone Center is within walking distance of Yerba Buena Gardens, SFMOMA, the Ferry Building and Union Square shopping, with cable cars, the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf a short trip away. Late August is a good time to visit, though the city's famous fog keeps evenings cool — bring a light jacket even in summer. Check the official Pokémon site closer to the date for the schedule, spectator-pass details and side-event line-up.
