The Pokémon World Championships make their first trip to Southeast Asia in 2027, landing at Singapore EXPO in Tampines from August 13–15. It's a genuine milestone for the event — after editions in the US and Japan, the crown jewel of competitive Pokémon crosses the Pacific for the first time, bringing the best players from every region, earned through a full season of Regional and International Championships, together to battle for the World Champion title across four formats at once: the Trading Card Game, the video-game doubles format (VGC), Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE.
Even for non-competitors, Worlds is a genuine spectator event. The main stage runs professional broadcast production with casters, analysts and cinematic camera work, and a live Top 8 carries an atmosphere unlike almost anything else in competitive gaming. Beyond the main tournament, expect side events open to attendees, panels, artist signings, meet-and-greets with top players and content creators, and event-exclusive merchandise that reliably sells out within the first day.
A key practical note carries over from past editions: attendance is largely limited to players who've earned an invitation through Championship Points, plus a pool of spectator passes released in advance that tend to go quickly. If you're planning to attend purely as a fan, watch the official Play! Pokémon channels for the spectator-pass release and sort that before booking flights or a hotel.
Singapore EXPO makes for an unusually easy Worlds to attend logistically. The venue has its own MRT station — Expo, on the East–West and Downtown lines — with direct trains from central Singapore taking well under half an hour, and it sits close enough to Changi Airport that arriving fans can go straight from baggage claim to the show floor with barely a stop in between.
The prestige is hard to overstate: Worlds is the single hardest Pokémon event to qualify for, and past championships have entered franchise lore, from record Trading Card Game finals to legendary video-game brackets. Winning brings a substantial prize pool, scholarship money in the youth divisions, and a permanent place in competitive history — and a first Southeast Asian edition raises the stakes further for the region's fast-growing competitive scene.
Singapore itself sweetens the trip considerably. It's one of Asia's easiest major cities for first-time visitors — clean, safe, effortless to navigate, and built around some of the best food in the region — so pairing a tournament trip with a few extra days exploring costs little extra effort.
